If you enjoy “giving back” or are looking for something to do that will make a real difference to people in your local community why not think about volunteering as a Community Champion.
Supporting a hospital discharge or preventing an admission, is where the support from the community and a volunteer is invaluable. By providing low level, non-medical practical assistance can make a difference to a person’s confidence and life.
Social and practical support can include, collecting prescriptions, basic shopping, popping in for a chat and possibly assisting them with their gentle exercises. Support to attend groups, escorting and supporting until able to do so themselves, will lead to positive re-connections with their friends and encourage others in similar situations to join them.
Encouraging a person to take things at their own pace, focussing on the things they can do and what matters to them. By encouraging and setting realistic goals will help them back to an independent life in a safe manner.
It is important to make sure that people stay connected to their family, neighbours and general community. We believe if people feel valued, feel they have purpose and a sense of belonging they flourish and stay well.
The passion in this opportunity lies in wanting to make a difference to people’s lives
